Bland | Horatio Skene | | Sub Lieutenant | He drowned in the act of landing at Seal Island, Mossel Bay, Cape Colony, September 29th, 1901. He was the eldest son of Captain Horatio Bland, formerly of the King's Own Scottish Borderers, of Caunton Manor, Newark, Notts. He was 21 years of age, and educated at Stubbington School, Fareham, Hants. Passing into the "Britannia" in July 1894, he was promoted midshipman November 1896, and sub Lieutenant May 1900. He was buried in Mossel Bay cemetery.
