Caldecott | Harry Stratford | | | He was born at Port Elizabeth, November 24, 1846; is 3rd son of Hon Chas. Henry Caldecott, MLC, of Grahamstown, and was educated at the Diocesan College, Rondebosch, and St Andrew's College, Grahamstown. He is a Director of the Johannesburg Consolidated Investment Company, Johannesburg Estate Company, Glynn's Lydenburg, and other Companies He is also Chairman of the Witwatersrand Council of Education, and Member of the Technical Institute recently appointed by Government During Boer War, Mr Caldecott rendered good service in many ways, especially as Chairman of the Uitlander Committee in Natal, and later as Commandant of the Boer Refugee Women's Camp at Howick, for whose comfort as well as for the physical and mental education of their children he worked indefatigably. He married, Mar, 1876, Martha Johanna, daughter of J J Saner, of Aliwal North. | Unknown |
