Berthon | Herbert Cecil Willoughby | | Lieutenant | Died on December 15th, 1899, at Wynberg, Cape Colony, of wounds received at Magersfontein. He was the son of Major General T P Berthon, of West Mount, Ryde, Isle of Wight, and was born June zoth, 1865. Lieutenant Berthon served in the ranks nearly seven years and gained his commission as 2nd Lieutenant in the East Yorkshire Regiment, January 1894; promoted Lieutenant October 1896, and transferred to the Royal Highlanders, October 1897. He served with the Kimberley Relief Force under Lieutenant General Lord Methuen previous to being wounded at Magersfontein.
