Cape | Charles Scarvell | | Lieutenant | CAPE, CHARLES SCARVELL, Lieutenant, was born 3 July 1866, son of William Frederick Cape, of Sydney. He was educated in Sydney; joined the Australian Military Forces, and served in the South African War, 1899-1901; was mentioned in Despatches, and created a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order [London Gazette, 19 April, 1901]: "Charles Scarvell Cape, Lieutenant, New South Wales Mounted Infantry. In recognition of services during the operations in South Africa". The Insignia were presented to him by the King 25 July 1901. He was promoted to Captain. Captain Cape married, in 1906, Maude, daughter of George Frederick Want.
