Blackett | Algernon Carey | | Lieutenant | He was killed in the engagement at Syferfontein, about nine miles north of Vaal Station, on February 8th, 1902. He was the youngest son of Captain E A Blackett RN of Wylam, Northumberland. He was born May 6th, 1873, and educated at Bedford Grammar School and Wellington College, also at Emmanuel College, Cambridge. Lieutenant Blackett was in South Africa when war was declared and joining Bethune's Mounted Infantry, served with it till March 1901. He was then transferred to the South African Constabulary, and while with that force, was severely wounded on October 12th, 1901, but on recovering rejoined and served until his death. He was awarded the Queen's medal with six clasps and the King's medal.

Blackett | Ralph | | Captain | He was born at Wimborne, Dorset, Sept 19, 1877, and is the son of Major General Sir E Blackett, Bart. He was educated at Clifton and Sandhurst, and joined the Army in Feb, 1897, served in the Boer War with the 14th Hussars under Sir Redvers Buller until the relief of Ladysmith. He was with General French's Cavalry Div. in the Orange Free State, and with General Elliott's columns in ORC, 1902 (QSA with five clasps, KSA with two clasps). Captain Blackett was appointed captain in the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers in Egypt, 1905. | Staff |
