Evans | John Emrys | | | Born at Abergele, Denbighshire, Aug 18, 1853, and is eldest son of Emrys Evans, of Cotton Hall, Denbigh. Educated at the Liverpool Institute and the Denbigh Grammar School, he joined the National Provincial Bank of England in 1870, and in 1882 transferred his services to the Standard Bank of South Africa. Mr Evans was British Vice-Consul at Johannesburg from Aug, 1897, until the declaration of war, Oct 11,1899; was Financial Adviser at Bloemfontein, March, 1900; Financial Adviser to Lord Roberts, June, 1900; Controller of the Treasury, Transvaal, Aug, 1900, and Auditor General in the Transvaal from April to December 31, 1901. Lord Milner nominated him a member of the Johannesburg Town Council in June, 1902, and he became an elected member in November, 1903. He is also a Director (and Vice Chairman) of the National Bank of South Africa the Johannesburg Consolidated Investment Company, Henderson's Consolidated Corporation, the Vereeniging Estates, Sheba GM, add other companies. His recreations are fishing shooting, and golf. Mr Evans married, in 1893, Johanna Margareta, daughter of P G Leeb, of Wynberg, near Cape Town. | Unknown |
