Wood | Hugh Maurice | | 2nd Lieutenant | He died of an abscess of the liver at Springfontein, May 3rd, 1902. He was the eldest son of Thomas Archibald Wood of Eliot Park, Blackheath, London and was twenty two years of age. He served throughout the early stages of the war with the Cape Mounted Rifles, and from the ranks of that corps, on the recommendation of General Lord Kitchener, was gazetted in July 1901, to a commission in the 1st Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment, with which he served until his death.
