Wadling | John William Cottingham | | 2nd Lieutenant | He died of enteric at Naauwpoort on March 5th, 1900. He was the only son of Lieutenant Colonel J Cottingham Wadling, of the 5th Northumberland Fusiliers, was born in September 1878, and educated at Rugby, where he was one of the rifle team when the school won the Ashburton Shield. He entered the 2nd Battalion Royal Berkshire Regiment from the 3rd Battalion in June 1898. 2nd Lieutenant Wadling was with his battalion in South Africa on the outbreak of the war, and served with it in the operations in the north of Cape Colony.
