Fuhr | Robert Strickland Hannay | | Lieutenant | FUHR, ROBERT STRICKLAND HANNAY, Lieutenant, was born 27 August 1871; became LRCS Edinburgh, LRFPS Glasgow. He entered the Army 27 July 1898. He served in the South African War, 1899-1901; took part in the Relief of Ladysmith, including action at Colenso, operations 17 to 24 January 1900, and action at Spion Kop; operations 5 to 7 February 1900, and action at Vaal Kranz: operations on Tugela Heights 14 to 27 February 1900, and action at Pieter's Hill: was present during operations in Orange Free State, April and May 1900; also in the Transvaal June and July 1900 (Despatches [London Gazette, 16 April, 1901]; Queen's Medal with six clasps). He was created a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order [London Gazette, 27 September 1901]: "Robert Strickland Hannay Fuhr, Lieutenant, Royal Army Medical Corps. In recognition of services during the operations in South Africa". He was invested by the King 17 December 1901. He became Captain 27 July 1901, and Major 28 January 1910. He served in the European War from 1914; was twice mentioned in Despatches, and created a CMG in 1917. Lieutenant Colonel Fuhr married, in 1896, Maud Lilian, daughter of H H Bottomley, and they had one son.
