LarnerHenry MeredithHenry Meredith Larner was born in Woolwich, Kent on 4 June 1866, the son of Edward William Larner, a Commercial Broker, and Frances Larner, nee Salter. Educated at St. Paul’s and Pembroke College, Cambridge where he gained a B.A. in 1888. He attended the Cambridge Clerical Training School in 1888. Larner was ordained a Deacon in 1890 and was Curate of Witley, 1890-94, being ordained a Priest in 1891 and gaining a M.A. in 1892. He was then appointed Curate at All Saints, Cambridge, 1894-97 and was Chaplain to Pembroke College, Cambridge, 1896-97. His next appointment was as Curate of St. Peter’s, Eaton Square, 1897-98, then St. Mary Abbot’s, Kensington, 1898-1901. Larner then served as an Acting Chaplain of the Forces in South Africa, 1901-02, being attached to the Mounted Infantry and 3rd Battalion Grenadier Guards. Upon his return he was appointed Curate of Hursley, 1904-05 and then Rector of Busbridge, 1905-27. During the Great War he was employed as a Civil Chaplain at Calais, 1915-16 and a Temporary Chaplain to the Forces, 1917-18. Larner was then appointed Vicar of Milford-on-Sea, 1927-30 and was Rector of Dogmersfield in the Diocese of Winchester from 1932. The Reverend Henry Larner died in Cambridge on 10 March 1950.
