Fletcher | Walter John Cumberlege | | 2nd Lieutenant | He died at Kimberley, October 18th, 1899. He was born November 26th, 1879, educated at Tonbridge School, and entered his regiment from the Militia May 1899. He then joined the 1st battalion in Capetown, and proceeded to Kimberley in October with the wing of his battalion, which was sent there to assist in holding the town. He was the first officer to die during the war.
