He is confirmed on the roll for the 1897 clasp with the BSAP. He died of fever at Fort Hartley, aged 25 years, on 23 March 1897. Although shown as 'Foster' on the rolls, he apparently signed his name as 'Forster'. BSACM Rhodesia 1896 (1) Mashonaland 1897 (Tpr. John Foster, B. F. F.). DNW September 2000 £270.
