McLachlan | Alexander | | | BSACM Mashonaland 1890 (1) Rhodesia 1896. 1896: Lieut. Salisbury FF. Born at St Helena Bay, Malmesbury District, Cape Colony, on 14 August 1863. He attested into the Pioneer Corps as a Trooper on 18 March 1890, and was appointed to 'C' Troop on 27 March, serving as a Gunner during the 1890 operations. After the disbandment of the Pioneer Corps he prospected in the Mazoe Valley and, around 1894 worked on the Beira Railway. He at one time drove the Salisbury-Umtali coach and later worked for Rhodesia Railways, living in Eastern District, Rhodesia. During the operations in Rhodesia in 1896 he served as a Lieutenant in the Salisbury Field Force. He left Rhodesia in 1931 and retired to a farm near Malmesbury, owned by a cousin, Mr Blankenburg. He married Joanna von Wiese in Rhodesia but had no issue. Alexander McLachlan died at Malmesbury in 1938. BSACM undated (2) Mashonaland 1890, Rhodesia 1896 (Gnr. McLachlan, A. - Pioneers).
