Maguire | Charles James Kinahan | | Captain | He was killed in action at Diamond Hill, near Pretoria, June 11th, 1900. He was a son of the Dean of Bangor, Down, was born March 1872, and educated at Rossall. Captain Maguire entered the Royal Sussex Regiment from the Militia in March 1892, being promoted Lieutenant May 1894, and Captain April 1899. At the commencement of the war he was serving at the depot of his regiment at Chichester, and belonged to the 2nd battalion then stationed in India. Volunteering, however, for active service, he joined the 1st battalion in South Africa in April 1900, and served with it in ORC and the Transvaal until his death.
