Thanks for the info Frank. I am an historian concentrated on the history of Canadians. I appreciate your advise. Your story of the people you have met and, unfortunately, did not meet rings with me.

In my career I have met literally hundreds of interesting characters including a WWII Canadian/American Spit pilot who became the chief test pilot for the IAF in 1948 (there is a great tale here waiting to be told) and the chief test pilot for Bell in 1943. He flew 26 missions with the X-1 and had the sound barrier taken away from him by the USAF and Chuck Yeager ( www.mysteriesofcanada.com/Military/slick_goodlin.htm ). There is also a story here that debunks the Yeager claim.

There is also a story about Buzz Bombing of the Peace Tower ( www.mysteriesofcanada.com/Military/buzz.htm ). I could go on.

If you want to stay in touch (and I wish you would) please email me at [email protected].

I will send you a photo of my grandfather's medals since I am having trouble getting it onto the Boer War site.

Thanks again

I agree with David, your grandfathers QSA is actually not only a nice medal, irrespective of its condition, but, it is really a rather rare example, seldom seen these days!
I cannot stress the valor of the "Queens Battery" enough on the 31st of March 1900! :woohoo:

I sent the image to David with the hope that he will post it.
The <add file> does not seem to work from either of my computers.
I am still very interested in finding out more about the desertion.
