This button is from a batch Brett kindly sent me.
I was struggling to identify it and took it along with me to last weeks medal fair and let a button expert look at it.
We made out the letters ZAR which he seemed to think would be worn by a Boer soldier.
I am not too sure, the button is English made.
Anybody have any views on this please.

Z.A.R. is short for, in english, South African Republic......

I will post a picture as soon as I find one.....

It is a ZARP button (Zuid Affickaanshe Republike Politie) and a very good example too, British manufacturing was not subject to foreign policy in the 1890's as I am sure "pushfull" Joseph Chamberlain and his family would be the first to admit! :(
