Hello Iain,
Kruger's dreaded ZARP's were around before the war and I do think that their badges/buttons etc are very nice, this is reflected in the high prices now being paid.

Now regarding orchids, I think growing them inside is a great idea, my collection, however is not doing very well, it's just been so cold here, just measured "Alfred" and average blooms are 190mm! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
Regards Frank

I had a nice show of Amaryllis in the garden last season with blooms 150mm across, but this year large hail destroyed the show. Maybe I should also grow them in pots.....

I'm sure ZARP insignia is quite rare as the ZARPs took a terrible pounding from British Artillery at Bergendal.

regards, Iain

Hi Frank,

as I recall, the ZARPs were one of only 2 regular units in the Boer forces.
I actually visited the Bergendal monument the other day as I was in the former Eastern Transvaal on business. I'll post pics in due course in the monuments section.

I'm impressed that your Amaryllis is so large, well done!
Here's a pic of my group.

Hello Iain,
Yes, along with his Staats Artillery, the only regular force in the old republic, do we need a specialist orchid section in the miscellaneous section? :woohoo:

We definitely allow pictures of South African groups so I guess that last picture falls within the forum rules :)

Kind regards

A most pleasing South African "Group" and lets not forget that orchids were very popular in Queen Victoria's day, look at the well know portraits of "Pushfull" Joseph Chamberlain! :)

It is an impressive group tho'; just a thought, maybe we could rename the forum as " the Anglo Boer war and Amarylis forum?"
