Sturgy, many thanks for sharing these marvellous and very interesting photographs. The museum in Bloemfontein has expanded over the past decades to include displays highlighting the involvement of the non-white communities in the war. For various reasons the written and photographic documentation about this particular aspect of the war is rather limited and I think that (copies of) some of your photographs could further enhance their presentation on the subject. May I kindly suggest that you contact Etna Labuschagne – etna@anglo-boer.co.za who looks after the photograph collections in the museum, to discuss this? Perhaps Elmarie could assist in this matter?
My experiences with the museum in this regard (copies of agterryer correspondence) are very positive. Everhard

Hi EFV,

Thanks again—I took a chance on the album and was thrilled to discover photographs of the native communities.

There were additional images of the refugee camps, though unfortunately they were uncaptioned, so I couldn’t identify their locations with certainty.

I’ll reach out to Etna; coincidentally, I’ve recently been in touch with Dr Johan van Zyl and Dr Vicky Heunis on an unrelated matter.

I also have a few more photographs to share, focusing on transportation and disembarkation for England, which I’ll upload in the coming days.

When I get a chance I would also like to identify the Boer Refugees (du Plessis sisters), the two families and the names of the Boer Prisoners.

Best regards,
Shaun
