Hello Elmarie
Thanks for the photo posted above.
Does your information confirm where the farm 'Osspruit' is situated where Tpr Henry Lumsden is purported to have been killed and buried?

Good morning FSBurgher,

In your very first post in this thread from almost 13 years ago you posted the broken tombstone to Colour Sgt G Wood:

By pure chance I acquired an old photo album with a picture of his original tombstone and grave site before it was broken:

You can see that someone had recently placed flowers at the foot of the grave.

Speak my name so that I may live again

Regarding Trooper Henry Charles Lumsden

www.isle-of-wight-memorials.org.uk/churc...saviours_lumsden.htm

There is also a plaque bearing his name in Sherborne School, Dorset, which he attended.

Regarding his possible relationship to Dugald McTavish Lumsden (1851-1915) - they both originated from Aberdeenshire and I have found them both occupying a place on the same Public Family Tree on Ancestry. However, they are so far apart on the FT that it is impossible to define the relationship which in terms of blood must be very weak.
