TOPIC:

I've recently acquired a Boer War photo album belonging to an officer of the 5th/Royal Fusiliers, who arrived in South Africa on 27 June 1901. I'd like to share a selection of candid images from the collection that may be of interest to fellow members of this forum.

Rather than being arranged chronologically, the photographs are grouped by theme, offering a unique lens into various aspects of the conflict.

Part 2a: Boer Prisoners

Boer prisoners with escort of S.A.C. at Vet River siding waiting for train to Bloemfontein.

These prisoners who belonged to Theron's Commando were captured in a kraal at Leeuwpan, 22 miles west of Ventersburg Road, after a desperate resistance by a patrol of S.A.C. on 4 May 1902. they wounded 2 Officers and 4 men and killed 6 men of the S.A.C. [x] a Segt Major before they surrendered.
