Lindsell | Charles F | | Captain | BSACM Matabeleland 1893 (0). 1893: Capt. BBP. Jameson Raider. Capt. 4th Batt. Durham Light Inf. (Militia) Capt. B.S.A. Co. Force. Formerly in Royal Scots Fusiliers. Served in Zulu and Tvl. Campaigns. Came to S.A. as a newspaper correspondent hoping to get an appointment. He was then in the Army Reserve and after acting as Transport Officer to Major Grey's Column in Matabele War without pay was appointed by High Comm. Captain in the Bechuanaland Border Police and made Magistrate at Tati. In 1894 he was selected as the Representative of Her Majesty's Government on the Matabeleland Land Commission under the Order in Council July 1894 and in August 1894 War Office seconded him for that employment. The Commission was dissolved in January 1895 and Capt. Lindsell was afterwards made Magistrate of the Victoria District by the B.S.A. Co.

Sold with a rare original coloured certificate from the 'Rhodesian Pioneers & Early Settlers Society' certifying that Michael Gerald Linnell is recognised as a Rhodesian Pioneer having arrived in Rhodesia 1896; and a cricket ball with applied silver shield inscribed 'Presented to M. G. Linnell / United Banks C. C. / Bulawayo League / 5/11/04 Hat Trick. Michael Gerald Linnell arrived in Rhodesia in 1896 and served as a Trooper in the Matabeleland Relief Force during the rebellion that year.
