Roper | Ernest | | Trooper | BSACM Matabeleland 1893 (1) Rhodesia 1896. 1896: Tpr. C Troop BFF. He was killed in action at Dickebusch, Belgium, on 9 January 1915. The PPCLI first took up positions in the trenches at Dickebusch on 6 January 1915. At the time of his death Roper was aged 57, the son of the late Thomas Henry and Emma Roper, of Puddlehinton, Dorset, and husband of Marie Louisa Roper, of 1175 Haro Street, Vancouver, BC. He is commemorated by name on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres. Four: Private Ernest Roper, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, late Salisbury Horse, killed in action on 9 January 1915. BSACM Matabeleland 1893 (Trooper E. Roper, Salisbury Horse); 1914-15 Star (1741 Pte. E. Roper. P.P.C.L.I.); British War and Victory Medals (1741 Pte. E. Roper.
