Lysley | Lowther | | Captain | He was killed in action near Bergendal, August 29th, 1900. He was born August 1872, educated at Eton and entered the Rifle Brigade, October 1892, being promoted Lieutenant 1895, and Captain February 1900. At the commencement of the war, he belonged to the 3rd Battalion, then in India, but volunteering for active service, was attached for duty to the 2nd Battalion in South Africa. Captain Lysley fell while leading his company to attack a strong Boer position at Bergendal. Sir R Buller, in reporting this action in his despatch of September 13th, 1900, states: "The honours of the assault belong to the Rifle Brigade" and he "much regrets the death of Captain Lysley, who led his company most gallantly" LG, February 8th, 1901.
