BlackettRalphCaptainHe was born at Wimborne, Dorset, Sept 19, 1877, and is the son of Major General Sir E Blackett, Bart. He was educated at Clifton and Sandhurst, and joined the Army in Feb, 1897, served in the Boer War with the 14th Hussars under Sir Redvers Buller until the relief of Ladysmith. He was with General French's Cavalry Div. in the Orange Free State, and with General Elliott's columns in ORC, 1902 (QSA with five clasps, KSA with two clasps). Captain Blackett was appointed captain in the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers in Egypt, 1905.Staff
