Agree to both your adjectives. Here are Rimington's medals:

Here are two mainly Natal Carbineers' groups. Mitchell started out in the Maritzburg Rifles, which was really just the dismounted Carbineers, while Comrie earned all his medals with the Carbineers, although he also served with the 8th SA Horse in German East Africa. Most of the relevant long service awards are covered by these two groups. I would have been happier still if the 1897 Jubilee Medal and two Coronation medals were also present.

The medals below belonged to one of the more interesting men represented in my collection. Although he served in the 2nd SA Mounted Rifles throughout WWI, he did not qualify for the trio because he was court officer and therefore not on active service. The WWI service added to his earlier Natal Police service qualified him for the long service medal. He was in uniform in four wars and died in German-occupied Jersey in a fifth (WWII).

This group of mine to Patrick McGowan ticks almost all the boxes with the exception of the Natal 1906.

How about the QSA and Natal 1906 pair to Leader M.K. Gandhi, Natal Volunteer Indian Ambulance Corps?

I heard many years ago that they were in a museum somewhere in India.

Best,

Justin

Gandhi's medals are in the Gandhi Museum in Mumbai. My mother-in-law saw them last month and tried to take a picture for me but it didn't come out.

A better picture is on the BMF: www.britishmedalforum.com/viewtopic.php?...t=65806&hilit=ghandi
