25230 TROOPER HENRY GREEN: COMMANDER IN CHIEF'S BODYGUARD

The first arrival of 2026 is the Queen's South Africa medal to Henry Green of the Bodyguard.

Henry enlisted at Cape Town on 18th December 1900 and was discharged time expired at Johannesburg on 19th June 1901.

He appears to have gotten through his period of service without injury as he doesn't show up on any casualty records.
I have found no other military service and his background remains a mystery with having a common name difficult to pin down anything on him from the usual resources.

Queen's South Africa medal awarded to 25230 Trooper Henry Green.

Officially impressed number, rank and name to the rim.

Regimental naming.

Steve,

An early start to 2026.

Sadly, this attestation paper add little to what you already know.

Best wishes
David

Thank you for posting Green's attestation document. There is the street name he gave as residence following his discharge. Maybe that could lead to something with a bit of luck.

Also picked up the QSA with RofL clasp to J. H. Templeton of the Bodyguard from Morton and Eden s last sale.

Hi Steve,

Good start to 2026!

If I read the address right then he was living at 16 Gore Street in Cape Town which puts in the heart of modern day District 6.

By co-incidence the previous inhabitants of the residence also served in the Anglo Boer War (from Rory's collection):

Small world indeed.
