This thread is intended to capture information that can be added to the Tribute Medal database

Pictures of Tribute Medals that can be added to the database would be greatly appreciated, as would information to develop and expand the existing content.

Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England - listed but no image.

These are awful quality but all I have. I will try to find better.

Please find attached images of the obverse and reverse of a 'SOUTH SHIELDS HONOURS HEROIC MAFEKING' tribute medal. A very crisp example with sharp relief. Obviously kept in a drawer for the past 121 years!

Norwich: "The presentations reported in the press account for only 153 of these, leaving a balance of 120."

A (free) BNA search for 22 Bearer Coy generates hits that suggests the RAMC unit was from Norfolk with possibly over 60 Volunteers. This was on top of the bearers that went with the Norfolk Regt's Vol Service Company. (see: www.angloboerwar.com/forum/2-introductio...norfolks-who-or-what ).

I have not been able to show if these RAMC Norfolk Volunteers received the tribute medal. If they did it might help explain some of the balance and as The Norfolk News (11/05/1901) report does not make a distinction between VSC and RAMC Volunteers, it is a possibility.

Might other corps (e.g. Army Service Corps, RE) have used Volunteers?

This would certainly make sense and explain the short fall.
I will look for a report of R.A.M.C. men receiving medals.
