Issued in honour of this French Officer who was in charge of the Foreign Corps and who was Killed in Action on 5 April 1900.

Gilt. Similar to previous Lot.
DIAMETER: 29.76 mm
WEIGHT: 9.32 grams
ARTIST: C.F. Keyzer, an employee of the N.Z.A.S.M.

Commemorates the Ragama Boer Prisoner of War Camp in Ceylon. It is said that the medal was struck on a Z.A.R. penny.

Commonly derogatively called the “Scum of the Scum” medal this wording being taken from an article published in the “Times” of Ceylon.

Commemorates the transportation of former Prisoners of War from Ceylon to Rotterdam in the ship “Gede” on 28 July 1902.

ARTIST: G. Prud’homme (Struck at the Paris Mint)

An example in gold was presented to President Kruger when he visited the municipal headquarters when Ernest Gay, the presiding officer of the municipal council handed him the medal reserved for Heads of State that visited Paris.

Georges-Henri Prud'homme was a French sculptor and medallist having been born in Capbreton in south-western France in 1873. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris in the workshops of Alexandre Falguière and Alphée Dubois.
