Hovell | Hugh de Berdt | | Major | HOVELL, HUGH DE BERDT, Major, served in the South African War of 1899-1902. He was created a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order [London Gazette, 27 September 1901]: "Hugh de Berdt Hovell, Major, Worcestershire Regiment. In recognition of services during the operations in South Africa". The Insignia were sent to the GOC Transvaal 15 November 1902, and were presented at Bloemfontein 16 March, 1903.
