Grove | Alexander Sinclair | | Colonel | GROVE, ALEXANDER SINCLAIR, Colonel, was born at Dumfries in 1840, son of Henry Jones Grove, KH, and Major, 80th Foot (who died in March 1847), and Mary Anne Sinclair, daughter of Captain Sinclair, RN. He entered the Madras Army in 1858; became Captain, Madras Staff Corps, 12 June 1870. Captain Grove married, in 1873, Catherine, daughter of Major General Ezekiel Gage, Indian Army. On 12 June 1878, he was promoted to Major. He served in the Afghan War in 1880 (Medal); became Lieutenant Colonel in 1884; served in the Burma Campaign, 1887-88 (Medal and two clasps; created a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order [London Gazette, 3 August 1888]: "For services during the operations in Burma. Alexander Sinclair Grove, Colonel, Madras Staff Corps"). He was AAG, Madras and Burma, 1892-95, and Colonel on the Staff in 1895. Colonel Grove died on the 13th September 1897.

Grove | Arthur Langton | | 2nd Lieutenant | He died of wounds received in action at Buffelsvlei March 12th, 1902. He was the second son of the Reverend W H Grove of 15 Rothsay Road, Bedford, late of Cliffe Rectory, Rochester. 2nd Lieutenant Grove was born June 1874, and educated at Winchester. He served in the ranks for three and a half years, proceeded to South Africa at the close of 1899 and was present at the relief of Ladysmith where he was wounded. He was twice mentioned in despatches LG February 8th and September 10th, 1901, was awarded the medal for distinguished conduct in the field, and granted a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant September 1901 in the Norfolk Regiment
