Thornton | Edward Evelyn Danvers | | Captain | He died of enteric at Wynberg, March 10th, 1900. He was born in July 1867, and educated at Marlborough. He entered the Dorsetshire Regiment February 1888, being transferred to the Royal Munster Fusiliers in the same month, and to the Army Service Corps in December 1889. He was promoted Lieutenant December 1890, and Captain July 1893. He served with the Ashanti Expedition under Sir Francis Scott in 1895-96, and was awarded the star. He proceeded to South Africa in October 1899, and served there until his death. Captain Thornton's name was inscribed on a tablet placed in Marlborough College Chapel in memory of all Marlburians who fell in the war.
