Villiers | Reginald Hyde | | Lieutenant | VILLIERS, REGINALD HYDE, Lieutenant, was born 4 August 1870, son of Frederick E Villiers and Jane Isabella, eldest daughter of Douglas Baird, of Closeburn, Dumfries. He served in South Africa, 1899-1902; was twice mentioned in Despatches; received the Queen's Medal with six clasps, the King's Medal with two clasps, and was created a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order [London Gazette, 19 April 1901]: "Reginald Hyde Villiers, Lieutenant, Thorneycroft's Mounted Infantry (now Second Lieutenant, 12th Lancers). In recognition of services during the operations in South Africa". The Insignia were sent to the Commander-in-Chief in South Africa, and presented there. He became Lieutenant, 12th Lancers. He married Marianne Stockwell, and they had two sons and one daughter.
