| Gower-Poole | Percy | | | Born at Gravesend, Kent; is son of Reverend Samuel Gower-Poole, Chaplain to Hon Trinity House, London; was educated privately, and was a cadet on HMS Worcester. He spent some years in Canada in the Engineers Department of the GWR; served in the Canadian Militia; afterwards studied in Venice, and went to SA in '73; took part in the Zulu War as Lieutenant, being present at the taking of Morosi's Mountain, November 19, 1879 (medal and clasp). In the Boer War he served with Rimington's Guides and Scouts for 27 months, and with the 16th Brigade as Transport Officer for three months (medal and clasps). He has had experience of the Gold and Diamond Fields in Kimberley, De Kaap, Klerksdorp, Swaziland, Orangia, and the Rand; and practises now as Civil and Mining Engineer at Klerksdorp. He married, May S, 1887, Fanny Burnett, eldest daughter of J F Wood, of Stonehare, Scotland. | Damant's Horse |
