The Medal was sold to me as a confirmed member of the Jameson Raid
with only some paperwork confirming that a person named Fredercik W Brown
was in A Troop and was wounded. I purchased this from an established
Online Medal Dealer, not an auction site or anything like that.

I suppose what I'm looking for is some paperwork, confirming that the
medal Issued to Pte F W Brown DLI is the same person who was on the Jameson's Raid.

Are the service Records/Attestation papers for the Mashonaland Mounted Police &
the Durban Light Infantry, still in existence? I know that the medal rolls show
that the medal(Natal 1906) is correctly named & that somewhere there is a British South Africa Company Medal 1896 to Tpr F W Brown MMP.

Brown, is obviously a very common name, so there's as much chance as this being
a different F W Brown as it is being the same person.

If I could find any kind of paperwork on either man showing a place of birth, it would be a great start in piecing together his movements.

So far I Know the Jameson man was Born in England around 1869 ish.
has a given address as High St, Borough, London, SE (Southwark)
and that's about it.

Cheers John

According to this FW Brown broke his arm:

Something has to be the source of this, so I suspect there is something else out there.

If I was you I would contact Cam Simpson and ask him as he is writing a book on the raiders.

Good luck, nice medal.

John,

It would be nice to confirm these are one and the same man.

Ryan's suggestion of contacting Cam Simpson is a very good one. I can send him an email on your behalf if that would help?

Best wishes
David

Hello John,
Okay, so the seller has provided nothing whatsoever to suggest that this man was actually a member of Dr Jameson's force other than the details of a man who was! :(
I would say be very careful who you buy medals from, I hope this has a good result for you, a man in the DLI suggests a to me a resident of the Colony of Natal, so I would start at the archives in Pietermaritzburg if I was you.
Kind regards and good luck to you,
Frank Kelley

John,
I would add, all that's needed here is simply to match the exact age of your fellow, his birth details and you have your man, but, of course, if all went well, you would then have the minor issue of the BSA Co medal, a rare thing these days, when I was a small boy there was a bullion dealer in Bulawayo who was actually buying them to scrap, sadly, very many are lost forever.
Again, regards Frank

Good Morning Frank.....

There is a member of CMHS here in Calgary that was a member of BSAP before he got run out of the country and he said there used to be a large collection of medals including some Jameson's Raiders in his Officers Mess but just before they left they all disappeared.....
