Hello to all.

I was wondering if anyone could help me with some research I'm conducting,
on the fate of the men captured at the end of the Jameson Raid.

I hoped someone might know the fates of the men.
The officers are well documented, but I was wondering if anyone
knew where the men were jailed and their sentences.

I have found the list of Prisoners in the Times dated 22nd Feb 1896
and that they are sailing back to England on the Harlech Castle.

Thank you in Advance for any assistance.

Cheers John

The rank and file simply returned home and then most got on the first ship to return to the Cape, back to work for CJR! :)

Thank you for replying.

I've purchased a medal, Natal 1906, that is named to one of the Jameson's raiders
who returned back to the UK wounded - Trooper F W Brown, A Troop MMP

The Natal 1906 medal is named to : PTE F.W. BROWN. DURBAN LIGHT INFANTRY

I'm trying to confirm that this is the same man.

I can confirm that he appears on the DLI Medal Roll & I can confirm that
a Tpr F W Brown was issued a British South Africa Company Medal, No Clasp.

But now I need to 'marry' the two up with a paper trail.

Do you have any suggestions where I might start?

Cheers in advance,
John.

Frederick Brown was a 27 year old Londoner and served in "A" Troop of Dr Jameson's force, but , yes I do see your problem, have you taken a close look at the BSA Company rolls in WO100 and mean the originals and not the transcribed versions?
I'm a little confused, was this medal sold to you as a Jameson Raider and if so what came with it?

I suggest that you check to see if there are any files for F W Brown listed online by the SA National Archives. To reduce the initial search you should consult the Pietermaritzburg holdings ('NAB' of the search website). Death Notices can be particularly useful.

Brett

Lostmedals,

What makes you suspect he is a Jameson raider?

Kind regards
David
