I have recently come across an article in the Derby Daily Telegraph of 9 Jan 1915 from a Mr A (Arthur) BRADSHAW (my Great Grandfather's brother) in which he says he went to South Africa with the St John Ambulance Brigade during the Boer War.
He must have stayed on in South Africa because he then mentions being involved with the Winburg Loyalists in putting down the rebellion and in being captured and put in prison for 4 days accused of shooting De Wet's son.
Fortunately he was recognised by Gen. de Wet, having met him several times in his position as stationmaster, and so was saved from being shot and was sent to camp instead.
I would be interested to know how/when he went out to South Africa and whether he died out there.

Joe.

Hello Joe,
I can recommend both Audrey and Jenny, in addition I noticed a certain 1479 A Bradshaw has three entries in WO100/225 in respect of his QSA medal, would think this is the same man!

Hello Adrian & Frank,

Thank you both for your replies.
Excuse my ignorance but I am not familiar with the ref. WO 100/225 and how to access the entries referred to.

Regards Derek.
