Hello Forum Members.

I am in need of help and clarification......again.

I would like to know if attestation papers are extant for 3787 Private Edward Clarke 2nd Battalion KOYLI? I have had a good trawl with no luck.

I do have some information from a Pin 71 document dated 1924 but It doesn't tell me where he was born. He was wounded at Lindley with gunshot wounds to right hand and thigh and was Invalided home on the 16th July 1900.

I have his QSA and there is a sad tale to tell about Edward but I would like to flesh out the story with information about his place of birth and his family if possible. His last home address I have is Lone Barn, Mattingley near Winchfield Hampshire.

Your help will, as always be most welcomed and appreciated.

Best regards

Dave

Dave,

If you are asking for help, it is going to be a complex problem. I had a look and failed to locate any service papers. I will keep searching.

As you will be finding, there are many potential matches and it is difficult to identify suitable records.

Best wishes
David

Many thanks David
The Pin 71 document has him enlisting in 1892 at Pontefract.
He was a Groom by trade. Alas no place of birth.

Dave,

I have been looking through some parish registers. Do you know approximately when he was in Winchfield?

Dave,

The closest I have found so far. Born c 1875, in Pontefract of all places.

Hayling Island is some way (40 miles) from Winchfield.

He joined the Royal Scots Fusiliers in 1892 for 3 months. He re-enlisted in 1915 in the HAC (9751). He was married in Blackpool in 1908. He wife was Ethel. So probably not him.
