Hi
Here is a family photo of William Flynn with his medals. We believe he was a Connaught Ranger. He was born in Ballina, Co. Mayo in 1855. He had seven sons all Connaught Rangers who served around the globe but all survived their experience in WW1.
Can anyone help me getting any info on hos service? Any idea what the medals could be? I have had success with the bothers but zero with the father.
thanks
anthony

Welcome to the Forum. The medal pair worn by William Flynn in that photo appear to be a Queen's Sudan and a Khedive's Sudan with one clasp. Those medals were awarded for the re-conquest of the Sudan in 1898 and do not relate to the Boer War. Of course, he may well have also served in SA. You might care to follow that up. You might try one of the commercial sites.
Good luck with your quest.

IL.

Thanks very much, you must have amazing eyesight...
I have access to findmypast but I am not sure how to search him or to identify him if I find him. I do not know his army number, unlike the sons. Would he be listed as Connaught Ranger or the previous names of the regiments?
thanks for any suggestions

The ribbon of the Queen's Sudan medal is quite distinctive. I would do my digging under Connaught Rangers.
