I have compressed the files to very small but I keep getting an error saying files too large, reverse of the photo.

Dear combatmedic,
welcome!
The site only allows attachments of less than 500 KB, so you may have to open your image in your software and use the tools/resize function. Some suggestions:
1. Do you know Zetef du Plessis in Cape Town? He has a special interest in the ZARPS; if you PM me I will send you his contact details; he may know of your GGF.
2. If your GGF applied for the Anglo Boere Oorlogsmedalje, the paperwork he filled in [the Vorm B] will be in Pretoria, and you can use the services of someone like Dewald Nel to get you copies at a reasonable price.
3. Can you give any other information about which farm or district he was from, which commando or wyk he served with, who his officers were, etc?
4. If his family were in the concentration camps you may be able to find them among this list: www2.lib.uct.ac.za/mss/bccd/PersonsSearch/1/schyff--/1/
Look forward to see the photo of your relative.
Rob

Hello Rob D thank you so very much for taking the time to respond. Oddly I have just had a copy of the photo "colourised" and Zetef has liked the photo on FB (I don't use my real name on there for privacy reasons not that I have anything to hide)

Great photo!
I'd date it between 1896 and 1899, just because the .303 Lee Metford Mk 1* rifle and British patt 1888 bandolier were probably taken from Jameson raiders or Reform Committee members.

Matt, here are a couple of ZARPs with Lee Metfords and Patt 1888 bandoliers like your GGF has. It's thought that the Raiders carried sporting Lee Metfords and these military-pattern LM Mk I*s are confiscated from the Reform Committee in Johannesburg
