This is the RFA obelisk that was moved from Long's gunsite in Colenso to Clouston Hill.
When I visited recently, it was the only memorial with a poppy wreath

I actually wondered who might have put it there, the writing had faded.

Iain,

Has the obelisk been moved far? Do you know the reason for the move?

Many thanks for the picture.

David,

it is on Clouston Hill where Buller had his HQ, I believe during the first battle of Colenso.
It is now in a garden of remembrance with numerous other memorials, eg Freddy Roberts memorial. I understand they were all moved there for preservation. It's about 5 ks away from Colenso.
There are now only markers at the site of Long's guns.

A plaque at Clouston explaining. You can see Colenso from here.

Here is a plaque explaining. You can see Colenso from here, albeit far away.

Hello Iain,
Wonderful pictures, I have to say that I prefer to see monuments left alone, actually, where they were placed originally.
However, I understand that on occasion, they must be moved.
Regards Frank
