The Pretoria forts had a renaissance as tourist attractions when the now-defunct National Party was in power. I do not know what has become of them since then.

David

Was this a British fort or one taken over by the British Forces?

The one in the picture above looks a lot like the one named Fort Klapperkop in Pretoria? It would seem they were based on a similar pattern.

Fort Klapperkop was a military museum for a long time and site of the Border War monument. Today one can still visit it but is a shadow of its past.No longer a museum and not sure where all the exhibits have disappered to, very sad.

There was a wonderful medal collection, that I do recall. I lived near to the site 25 odd years back. I am led to believe 2 of the forts are just piles of rubble but cannot confirm? Will do some investigating.

Regards
Brian

I was reading another article from the Morning Post on 4 Feb 1896 where the situation after the Raid is referred to as is the construction of the forts and search for armaments.
