Dear All,

I picked up my first QSA just over a year ago so I still have a lot to learn. The naming shown below is on a recent acquisition. The style seems fine to me but my main concern is that after 'Pte' the rim is worn down very close to the recipients name. Has this simply been caused by genuine wear/tear or am I right to be a bit suspicious? All clasps are confirmed on the medal roll. Feedback would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Des

I wonder if this is what is referred to as an "officially renamed medal"?

Des,

The rim does not look to have been renamed to me. The style is correct and I can see no residue from any previous naming.

The naming is very high compared to most medals on which the characters run along the centre line.

I can see how the top of the rim dips immediately after the word Pte. I don't recall seeing a medal like this before. That said, the depth of the rim is not normally affected when medals are renamed. Looking from the obverse of the medal ie directly at the queen, does the rim have an equal width around the medal?

Best wishes
David
