Thanks Frank - sorry, I misunderstood your point. You're right, it was not in it's current state when it left the mint. I've had a bit of a rummage, but have no record of Houghton ever returning to South Africa after the war. Records aren't complete, but it's worth noting when trying to verify his claim of the medal being burnt in South Africa.

Just for the record, I have attached a photo of the man in question.
