Thee are a large number of Boer War artefacts in the next sale, B139, 16 August 2023.

The Natal 1906 medal are selling too.

RAY LEPPAN COLLECTION OF BOER WAR MEMORABILIA

PIPE
R 001 Wooden pipe engraved “East Yorkshire” including letter from Mr John Baker dated 8/9/77:

“Dear Mr Griffith,

If I remember correctly some time ago you did a television programme on the Boer War. You also had a collection of Militaria of that era. I am therefore sending the enclosed pipe to add to your collection.

The pipe was given to me by my father-in-Law (now deceased) who assured me it was carved in S.A. by a Soldier in the “East Yorks” (The Regimental Crest that is). I therefore feel it would be for better for it to be in your collection rather than have the sentimental limited showing of my home. As a matter of interest, I go over to Belgium and France periodically to dig around the Great War areas, mostly the Ypres Salient, and the Somme. If you are ever in the Nottingham area my family would be delighted to meet you (that’s obviously myself of course).

I sincerely hope you will add the enclosed to your collection.

Yours with Kind Regards
John Baker

Incidentally, my son, Simon got a grade one pass at school exams for his project on the Boer War! “ 3300

Plaas was in Middelburg, Kaap distrik. 500
