I've just acquired a group to Stephen Harry Kearsey of Lumsden's Horse and would appreciate members' input as to this fellow. The group comprises:

A GROUP OF FIVE MEDALS as follows: 1914 - 15 Star (No. 22 CPL S.H. Kearsey Vol. M.G. Coy), British War Medal 1914 - 20 (Lieut S.H. Kearsey), Victory Medal (Lieut S.H. Kearsey), General Service Medal with Iraq Clasp (Capt S.H. Kearsey) as well as The Queen's South Africa Medal with 3 Clasps for Johannesburg, Orange Free State and Cape Colony (289 S.H. Kearsey Lumsden's Horse) as well as a boxed silver (unstamped) presentation PENDANT, the front engraved "Tent Pegging 21/04/1919" and the reverse engraved "Brigade Headquarters Staff, Capt. S.H. Kearsey", weighs 26 grams. (6)

Kearsey settled in South Africa where he passed away.

Regards

Rory

Rory
Kearsey served as a Driver with B Coy Transport. His background was with the Military Accounts Office, Lahore. Appendix IV of Pearce shows him as later serving with the Johannesburg Police 12/00. The index to Pearce's work shows him as being mentioned in the text several times. However, I did not find a portrait of him listed.
Pearce's History of LH may be found in the "Books" section of the Main Menu.
Regards
IL.

Rory - worth having a look at the Public Family Trees on Ancestry. A Yorkshire lady has developed a Kearsey FT which contains a Stephen Henry Kearsey born 1882 in India, died in SA 1957. She has picked up his WW1 service but not his Boer War service. In the 1930's she found him on several ships manifests to & fro to India with occupation Indian Police Officer. The final voyage is in 1936 to Durban, SA when he is a retired police officer. Sounds like your man. Think he also gets a mention in the London Gazette in 1916. Regards, David.
