He is listed in the ‘Old Shiburnian Navy & Army List 1914-1919’ as follows: ‘Nyasaland Field Force; Military Landing Officer, Chinde, Portuguese East Africa; Administrative Commandant British forces at Chinde and acting Naval Transport Officer, July, 1917, to June, 1919; mentioned in despatches.’
