Described as: 'M.B.E.: London Gazette, Birthday Honours 1919 - ‘for services in East Africa.’Captain William Henry Woodward of the Natal Carbineers is confirmed on the medal roll, and his British War and Victory Medals were issued 14 April 1927. He is listed in the ‘Old Shiburnian Navy & Army List 1914-1919’ as follows: ‘Nyasaland Field Force; Military Landing Officer, Chinde, Portuguese East Africa; Administrative Commandant British forces at Chinde and acting Naval Transport Officer, July, 1917, to June, 1919; mentioned in despatches.’
