QSA (3) Defence of Ladysmith, Transvaal, Laing’s Nek (422 Tpr: F. Spencer. Natal Carbnrs:);

M&E say 'F. Spencer of the Natal Carbineers is confirmed on the medal roll, and the original collector’s card states that he was wounded at Besters Station 18 October 1899 and was first regimental casualty of the war (but not mentioned in Palmer). He is also listed as being wounded in the regimental history of the Natal Carbineers.'

KSA (2) (245 S.Q.M.S. A. L. Thomson. Natal V.C.R.)

M&E state 'A. L. Thompson of the Natal Carbineers and Natal Volunteer Composite Regiment is confirmed on the medal rolls, and is listed on the original collector’s notes as having been wounded in action at Nondweni on 28 July 1901.'

KSA (2) (Lt: F. S. Rundle, Natal V.C.R.), engraved.

Described as: F. S. Rundle of the Natal Carbineers and Natal Volunteer Composite Regiment is confirmed on the medal rolls. He was taken as a prisoner of war at Dewaals 21 August 1900, was subsequently released, and is confirmed in ‘The Boer War Casualty Roll’ by Palmer.

British War and Bilingual Victory Medals (Lt. J. T. Legg.)

Described as: 'James Thorpe Legg of the Natal Carbineers in confirmed on the medal roll, and additionally served with Murray’s Horse with entitlement to a Natal clasp. Becoming a clergyman in Roodepoort, Transvaal, he later served in the Great War as a Sergeant with the R.A.M.C. and S.A.N.L.C., later receiving a commission.'
