Frederick Davidson attested for the Northumberland Fusiliers and served with the 2nd Battalion in South Africa during the Boer War, being captured and taken Prisoner of War at Stormberg on 10 December 1899.

He saw further service with the 1st Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers during the Great War on the Western Front from 3 May 1915, and subsequently transferred to the 1st Garrison Battalion, North Staffordshire Regiment.

Spink say Burton Alexander Wilson was born at Tottenham, London. An 18-year-old fishmonger he enlisted in the Northumberland Fusiliers on 23 January 1894. He served with the Regiment in the Sudan expedition and was awarded the Queen's and Kings [sic] Sudan medals. He later served with the Regiment during the Boer War and was the recipient of a Humane Society's certificate for saving a life in the Orange River on 27 February 1900 and was discharged at Newcastle on Tyne on 22 January 1906.
