Spink note 'Served as a Clerk with the Imperial Military Railways during the Boer War; although these appear to be one and the same man, it remains possible it is a father and son.'

I think it's the same chap - John Gordon MacPherson was born in 1855, married in Grahamstown and passed away in Johannesburg in 1916 - his only child was a son Leslie Graham MacPherson.
