Described as:
Trooper W. Hall served with the Natal Mounted Police during the Zulu War, and is confirmed on the medal roll (although it is not known, at present, whether he was part of the detachment of 80 men to serve at the Battle of Isandhlwana – of whom 26 were killed in the battle). He also served during the Basutoland Rebellion, and the Second Anglo-Boer War, and is confirmed on the relevant medal rolls – although the QSA roll suggests that he may be entitled to the additional clasps ‘Transvaal’ ‘South Africa 1901’ and ‘South Africa 1902’. Incidentally, a man named ‘Billy’ Hall is mentioned in the regimental history: ‘The Mounted Police of Natal’ by Holt, as having had the responsibility of being regimental tailor, helping Major Dartnell to create and fit-out the regiment’s early uniforms.
